Introducing our Textile Creatives: Judith

What better way to kick off our new beginning than to introduce you to our talented bunch of textile creatives - starting off with Judith

Judith's first artistic ventures were in china painting and watercolours.  She wanted to sign her paintings properly, which lead her to her great love calligraphy! She got hooked on the history and form of the scripts, and the beauty of illuminated letters and manuscripts.

Judith loves combining words and text with imagery - scrapbooking and junk journaling opened up new avenues to express her creativity and celebrate the themes and people whio inspired her.  She embarked on a series of collaborative works resulting in a diverse collection of manuscript books and journals.  These are currently on display at Cassino Gallery until 31 August 2024.

Joining the Wild Women Textile Arts Group in 2022 was the start of something new for Judith as this is her first foray into textiles.  Fabric painting and fibrecraft such as silk paper came naturally to her, and she very quickly saw the possibilities of incorporating textiles into her journals.

Judith is now starting to explore the possibilities of stitch, both as embellishment and as a new medium for her calligraphy and story telling.  And as a group we are benefiting enormously from her willingness to share her skills in helping us to enrich our work by incorporating text.
